What this tool can and cannot tell you
Coordinates are not a postal assignment
Your GPS position tells us where you are standing. It does not tell us which post office India Post has assigned your address to. We match your position to postal data and show you the result — that is a very good guess, not an official record.
One locality can have several PIN codes
Large neighbourhoods are often split across two or more codes, and the boundaries do not follow anything visible on a map. If your street sits near a boundary, the detected code can belong to the area next door.
The directory is a December 2021 snapshot
All 1,57,056 post office records come from India Post's All India Pincode Directory as published on data.gov.in. Offices opened, closed or renumbered since then are not in it, and we do not edit the data by hand.
How to be certain
For anything that matters — a bank form, a delivery address, a legal document — confirm the code against India Post's own PIN code search, or ask at your local post office. If something here looks wrong, tell us and we will check it against the source.

When you need your area PIN code
A correct six-digit PIN code is what routes your mail and parcels to the right delivery post office. It is asked for almost everywhere:
- Filling the delivery address on Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra and other online orders
- Booking a courier or parcel pickup with India Post, Delhivery, Blue Dart or DTDC
- Completing bank, KYC, PAN and Aadhaar forms that ask for your area PIN code
- Entering the correct pincode on government, exam and job application portals
- Checking whether a seller or service delivers to your area
- Confirming the post office and PIN code for a new home or office address

How Indian PIN codes work
PIN stands for Postal Index Number. It is a six-digit code introduced by India Post in 1972 to make mail sorting faster and less dependent on how an address is written. Every delivery address in India sits under one PIN code — but the reverse does not hold. A large locality is often split across several codes, and most codes cover more than one post office: in India Post's own directory the average is 8 offices per PIN code.
The six digits are not random — reading them left to right narrows the location down step by step:
| 1st digit | Postal region — one of the nine zones India is split into (8 geographic + 1 for the Army Postal Service). |
|---|---|
| 2nd digit | Sub-region within that zone. |
| 3rd digit | Read with the first two, it identifies the sorting district the mail is routed through. |
| Last 3 digits | The delivery office inside that sorting district. |

So 110001 begins in zone 1 (the north), narrows to Delhi through the first two digits, to a sorting district through the first three, and to a delivery office with the last three — the Connaught Place area of New Delhi. The directory files 23 offices under that one code, Connaught Place SO among them, which is why a PIN code alone rarely pins down a street. Standing in the area and using current-location detection narrows it much further.
PIN codes change over time as new post offices open and delivery boundaries are redrawn, which is why it is worth confirming an unfamiliar code before posting something important — cross-check against India Post's official PIN code directory.
The full breakdown — all nine zones, the four kinds of post office, and how PIN codes differ from ZIP codes — is in the guide to how PIN codes work.

Finding your location's PIN code
How do I find my location pincode?
Allow location access when your browser asks. Your coordinates are sent once to our server, matched against postal data, and the six-digit PIN code comes back with the area and post office name. If no code is mapped to your exact spot, the result says so and shows the nearest delivery office instead of guessing.
What is my current location pin code?
It is the PIN code of the delivery area your position falls in. Tap "Detect my pincode" and the result appears with the area and post office name. Treat it as a very good match rather than an official record — India Post assigns codes to addresses, not to coordinates.
How can I check the PIN code where I am right now?
You can also type a city, area, locality or post office name into the search box to look up its PIN code without sharing your location.
Is the detected PIN code accurate?
Detection is only as accurate as your device GPS. Outdoors in a town or city the result is usually right for your street; indoors, or in open country, the position drifts to the surrounding locality. Where no PIN code covers your position at all, the result is labelled approximate and names the nearest delivery office and how far away it is.
meri current location ka pin code kya hai?
Upar "Detect my pincode" button dabaiye aur location access allow kar dijiye — jaha aap abhi khade hain, wahi ka exact 6-digit pin code turant screen par aa jayega. Yeh sabse aasan tarika hai jab aap sochte hain "main jaha hu waha ka pin code kya hai" ya "mera location pin code kya hai".
live location ka pin code kya hai?
Haan, live location se pin code turant nikal sakte hain — bas apni device ki GPS location allow karni hogi. Detect hote hi is jagah ka pin code, area aur nearest post office ka naam saath mein dikh jata hai.
pincode near me?
Apne aas-paas ka pin code janne ke liye upar diye gaye locator ka use karein — yeh aapki current location ke sabse nazdeek post office ka pin code batata hai, kisi city-wide range ke bajaye.
current address pincode?
Agar aap apne current address ka exact pincode dhoondh rahe hain, to location detector sabse reliable tarika hai — address type karke guess karne ke bajaye, yeh aapki asli coordinates se match karta hai.
What is the pin code of my location?
It is the six-digit code for the India Post delivery area your position falls in. Tap "Detect my pincode" above and it is matched from your coordinates in seconds — no need to know your area name first. Check it against your postal address before using it on a form.
What is the 6-digit pin code of my location?
Every Indian PIN code has exactly six digits, and the first one narrows it to a postal region (e.g. 5 for the south). Use the detector above to get the full six-digit code for wherever you are standing right now.
Why not just use Google Maps to find my pincode?
Both start from the same place: your coordinates are geocoded to an address, and that address carries a PIN code. The difference is what happens next. We check that code against India Post’s own directory and show you the delivery offices filed under it, so you can see which office would actually serve you. When the geocoder returns no PIN code at all, we fall back to the nearest delivery office and tell you plainly that the answer is approximate, instead of leaving you with nothing or with a number you cannot check.
Is My Location Pincode free to use?
Yes. Every feature — current-location detection, search and the full state-by-state directory — is free, with no account or app install.
Do I have to share my location to use the site?
No. Location access is optional and only used if you choose "Detect my pincode". You can search by city, area or post office name instead.
Which parts of India are covered?
All 28 states and 8 union territories — 19,299 PIN codes and 1,57,056 post offices, which is the whole of India Post's All India Pincode Directory. You can browse down to district, city, area and individual post office.
Why is the PIN code it found wrong?
Usually one of three reasons. Your GPS put you on the wrong side of a boundary, which happens most often indoors or near the edge of a locality. Or your locality genuinely has more than one PIN code and your street falls under a different one. Or the address is newer than our data — the directory is a fixed snapshot and does not include offices created since. Search by your locality or post office name to see the other codes nearby.
How do I report an incorrect PIN code?
Use the contact page and tell us the PIN code, the locality and what you believe is correct. We do not edit postal records by hand, so what we can do is check the entry against India Post's published directory and correct it if we have read it wrongly, or tell you plainly that the source itself is out of date. The data here is the 2021-12 snapshot published on data.gov.in.
Is this an official India Post website?
No. My Location Pincode is an independent tool. PIN codes and post office names are issued by India Post; we present them for quick reference and are not affiliated with any government body.
